Squeak the Cat
View this Collection

Squeak is a rescue kitten that showed up on our doorstep in the summer of 2009.  She's become member of the family since and so full of personality that an entire collection is dedicated to her.  Enjoy!

Women

I've always had a love for the figurative.  These representations are not portraits but expressions of different moods.  Read into them whatever you wish- that's the point!

Cows

I painted my first cow outside of Seattle in 1991.  A friend and I drove into the Cascade Mountains in search of a dairy farm and beautiful surroundings.  We didn't have to go far.  Oddly, we were in search of a 'kitchy' subject and ended up with a new appreciation for rural scenery.

Landscape- and I use that term loosely!

Nature has a wealth of inspiration for me.  I have expressed it both abstractly as well as more realistic.  Its a subject I grapple with as  painter all of the time...yet I continue to come back to it often.

Flowers and Gardens

I began painting flowers a few years ago because, frankly, I was told that its one of the subjects that patrons are attracted to.  I had no idea how complicated this subject can actually be.  I have always gardened and love exotic house plants and it turns out that a flower can have just as much interest and personality in a painting as an animated object.

Other Animals

I am as fascinated at times with animals as I am people.   Depicted here are many images of my two dogs, Bo and Alice and others that have come across my path- in reality or in my imagination.

Commissions
View this Collection

I really enjoy commissions!  Sometimes- as in "Wildflower"- they give me the  chance to step out of my usual approach and other times they fit right in.  In "Wildflower" I had the feeling from my client that a more romantic approach was called for so I used a more impressionistic style.  In "Pooped"- a pet portrait that I thought was full of personality, my usual approach won out- still to a very satisfactory end.

Gouaches

These small paintings were done as a diversion from oils.  There are times when an artist(and anyone for that matter) needs to break out of the usual mediums/subject matter/ style etc. just to see what happens.  These were a happy alternative and I still go back  to this approach at times when pre-planning color schemes, etc.

Prints

So far I have only chosen one work to reproduce.  With the advances that we now have in the replication processes I hope to soon have more.
